Bethany McLean is an American journalist who is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, and known for her work on the Enron scandal and the 2008 financial crisis. She is also a columnist at Yahoo Finance and a contributor to CNBC. Her two books are the The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron and All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis. She has also written two mini books, Shaky Ground: The Strange Saga of the US Mortgage Giants and Saudi America: The Truth About Fracking and How It’s Changing the World. She had been an editor-at-large and columnist for Fortune and a contributor to Slate. Bethany started her career as an investment banking analyst for Goldman Sachs

Bethany graduated from Williams College with a BA in English and Math in 1992. She lives in Chicago with her husband and two children.
